Huddle Stories, Episode 018: Make Things That Matter (!)
“I was trying to explain [Huddle] to a friend. It’s basically like, call them and you’re going to get this dope team of people you could never hire, and they’ll be working on your thing by next week.” - Andrew Skotzko, Huddle member and Host of the Make Things That Matter podcast
This week Huddle co-founder and CEO Mike Saloio went on Make Things That Matter, Andrew Skotzko’s podcast dedicated to building products that matter in the world.
They spoke about ego, integrity, meditation, leadership, and how all of these things intersect.
Speaking of ego, here are a few of our fav quotes from Mike in the episode 😉 :
On our internal philosophy of Ubuntu at Huddle:
“The word [Ubuntu] basically means that a person is only a person through other people and the higher you go, the higher I go … the more you have, the more I have… You know, how do we create the ultimate support community for founders? Imagine a world where you’re building something and everyone around you is rooting for you because by rooting for you they’re actually rooting for themselves at the same time—that’s incredible.”
On integrity:
“If I was shipping a product that I consciously knew was bad for the world, that would be out of integrity for me because it’s not in alignment with what I authentically believe. I don’t just believe in this completely libertarian “everyone does what they want” thing because it’s not Ubuntu. …. I think if you take the view that you are connected to everybody you start behaving in a different way. Where what’s in my best interest is actually in everyone else’s best interest.”
On Co-Founder Steph Golik:
"Steph is the type of person where you walk into a room, you feel better leaving it because she was there."
On his message:
“My [parting] message is to just do the thing that you dream about doing. I want to help more people do whatever it is they want to do, and I want to connect them to the resources and people they need to do it. [And] you don’t need to do it how everyone else is doing it. The more authentic you are, the more you’ll find people who will ride with you.”
We couldn’t agree with you more, Mike.

What’s Huddle, you ask? We’re a vetted community of 700+ designers, builders, and creatives that work on startups together.
Startups apply to reserve Huddles (individuals or teams from our community) for things like MVPs, design help, pitch decks, software engineering, branding, marketing, advisory, and more. We help put the team together and care for all the messy bits - paperwork, legal, taxes, equity, etc. Plus, we host ongoing digital and IRL events to meet other members.
