Huddle Stories, Episode 021: Team-based Hiring
Episode 2 of Lone Geniuses is out now!
In this episode, Huddle member Emily Grubman talks about how she paid her bills in her early days in NYC by being a tasker on task rabbit and eventually worked her way up to being Red Antler’s Naming Expert, as well as her journey into freelancing and how she got her motivation to quit.
“I’m still figuring out what’s the best process for my creativity. Especially when I was working a traditional agency job where there were 9 to 6 business hours…. I’m still trying to unlearn that habit of, OK, the sun is shining, better get to work.
And I’m also trying to be okay with when at 11 pm, I get a spark of inspiration, to just go with it as opposed to being like, no, you have to go to bed so that you can wake up early and be creative in the morning. Like, no, just go with it right now.”

In other news, of All Trades published an article on “Modern approaches to building your early stage startup team” and highlighted Huddle as the example for Team-based Hiring:
“Today, resources available to founders go far beyond hiring a full-timer, an agency, or a contractor off of a traditional freelance platform like Upwork. New models are growing in scale and impact because existing ones don’t serve the modern startup…
You've heard of pop-up shops, but did you know there are pop-up teams? Huddle is a network that helps startups build a team in < 1 week. They make it easier to scale through community, tapping the kind of teammates you'd meet through friends.”
Thank you for the feature of All Trades!
The article is a great read: find out more about oAT and the modern approaches they discuss here, including their intro to Multi-functional Operating Partners, which is what they function as. (oAT is generalists-as-a-service for startups who need multi-functional doers with cross-functional experts.)
